Butirra Precoce Morettini pear is one of the best early pears that comes at the end of July, about 21 day before Williams. It is an Italian variety bred by A. Morettini in 1956 as a cross of Coscia and Williams varieties. Its growth is middle lush to lush. It yields very early, regularly and bountifully. Lenticels are not so visible and don’t spoil the look of the fruit. Its color is very beautiful and attractive. This pear has a high quality and can be cold stored 7 to 8 weeks.

Packham’s Triumph, is a pear variety which was bred by Charles Packham in Australia in 1896 as a cross of Angevine and Williams varieties. Its growing started from 1900.It is a late autumn pear variety harvested about 34 days after Williams. This pear is very similar to its Williams parent with green skin that ripens to a light yellow. The large pear is irregularly shaped, slightly leaning to one side. Its skin is covered in tiny, russet lenticels more visible than Williams`.

Santa Maria

Santa Maria is one more cultivar bred by A.Morettini in 1951 as a cross of Coscia and Williams varieties. This is a very juicy early summer variety which ripes 8 days before Williams. The trunk has a lush growth and is incredibly fertile. Its skin has a lime yellow colour, and on the sun exposed side it gets a nice red blush.

Profile:

  • Medium to large in size (150g – 200g – 250g)
  • Pear shaped with a nice light yellow colour, pretty thin skin and little green yellow lenticels
  • Refreshing taste and a really pleasant aroma, not overly sweet nor acidic
  • Creamy white flesh, soluble and with a fine compact texture

Carmen

Carmen is a cross between two Italian varieties, the Guyot and Bella di Giugno, first created in 1980.It is an early summer pear variety harvested in the mid of July, about 25 days before Williams. It has an attractive elongated slender neck that has a slight crook at the stem end. Its green yellow skin has a rosy red blush that covers 20 to 30% of the surface. It can be cold stored for 2 to 4 months.

  • A moderately sweet pear with a bright balanced acidity

Williams

Williams pear, known as Bartlett pear in North America, is well-known worldwide. The pear was first discovered in England in 1756. The discoverer was a schoolmaster named Stair, and so the pear became known as Stair's Pear. As well as consumed as table fresh fruit, this pear variety is largely used in industry for the production of fruit juices and salads so as alcoholic beverages-Williams brandy. Williams pear is late summer variety with a fairly roundish shape (classic pear shape). There is no rusty cover and it is very juicy when fully ripened. It has an excellent flavor of Muscat, a lot of sugar and fine acid.

  • Fairly roundish shape with a very thin skin and a light green colour which turns yellow when fully ripened

Abate Fetel is the Queen of pears and it is present in about 30% of our production. It is a late autumn French variety which was first bred by a monk Fetel around 1866 and introduced by a fruit grower Jacquier from Montplaisiara at the fruit growers meeting in Lyon in 1876. It is harvested 30 days after Williams pear.

  • Specific very elongated pear –shaped form, yellowish green, mid thin and hard skin with prominent lenticels and slight rusting cover

It is a successful cross of two American varieties, the Red Delicious and Virginia Ralls Janet, an old apple variety cultivated in the time of Thomas Jefferson in 1793. The name of the apple was given as homage to Japan's most sacred mountain, Mount Fuji.

Gala

Gala is an excellent choice to eat it fresh. Its color varies from carmine red to red, highlighted with gentle yellow stripes. It has crunchy, juicy and mild sweet flavor. Gala apples were developed as a cross between Golden Delicious and Kidd’s Orange Red, in New Zealand in 1934. Commercial distribution began in both Europe and the United States since 1962.
